APRIL IEREMIA
Since her television debut in 1990, the irrepressible April Ieremia has barely left our screens. The former netball champion has hosted an impressive list of prime time shows including sports presenter for TVNZ’s ONE News, Moro Sports Extra and Sports Night, plus major sporting events including the Commonwealth Games, the Olympic Games and the World Netball Championships. Her work won her the 1997 Qantas Media Award for Best Presenter.
Not just a sports presenter, April has hosted her own prime time entertainment show, April’s Angels, fronted episodes of The Money Game, and featured in top rating TV2 reality shows Top of the Class, Shock Treatment and Treasure Island. In 2007 April hosted NZ Open Home and was named as the face of the Living Channel.
A busy Mum to daughter Atlanta (5) and son Xanda (3), April’s life has become even busier with her new daytime show April In The Afternoon on Living. But April says her lifestyle helps her connect with her Living Channel audience. “Women lead much fuller lives these days and have to be all things to all people. I think I have the gift of the gab and an easy empathy and affiliation with people, so I’m more than excited about diving in boots and all on this show!”
Although it’s been a long time since she played netball for New Zealand, April says it’s surprising how quickly the old competitive spirit kicks in when you’re competing to lose weight on the “Fit Club” and is excited to be channeling it into getting fit and healthy. “I’m looking forward to sweating my butt off on national television … to lose 15kg! And hopefully inspire some viewers to get out and do it with us!”
